Roaming Reflections - Photographing Sydney’s Rockpools #01
Living in Sydney means I get to enjoy some pretty amazing beaches. From Palm Beach up north to Cronulla in the south, there’s about 70 km of coastline, and it’s all pretty stunning. One thing I’ve really come to love about Sydney’s beaches is the rockpools—those man-made little gems that are free to visit and open all year round. Fun fact: out of the 150 rockpools in the world, Sydney has 34 of them! I first noticed one while I was on a bus from Mascot to Bondi, and that’s when the idea of documenting them all started bouncing around in my head.
I was pretty sure I would be mostly using the drone to for this project but couldn’t resist bringing my whole kit either way. I decided I would start at the southernmost rock pool and then over the next few weeks would work my way up.
Over the next few weeks I will make my way from Oak park rock pool to Palm beach rock pool. Hopefully the weather cooperates. This is the first time I am attempting a body of work. Previously I have planned and researched to take a single shot, curious to see how different and difficult it will be to make a cohesive collection of photographs. I suspect keeping the editing style consistent will play a large part in it. Next post I will write about being in Cronulla and taking the photos of the three southernmost rockpools. Thanks for following along.
